This risk programme is the opportunity to experience the complexity of different risk disciplines and the ways they influence our business. We have seven main risk disciplines and over two years you’ll rotate through three to four of them – spending six months in each. Here you’ll learn about and contribute to their work, so you can decide which area suits you best. This may include one six-month placement in one of our international regions, depending on business requirements and performance.
Graduate rotations: Whichever risk disciplines you focus on during the programme, you’ll get a complex flavour of the kind of work that the team does. This will help you to decide which area of risk offers the kind of challenges and progress that you’re looking for in your future career.
These are some of the risk teams you could spend time in:
Credit risk
Credit risk management is pivotal in understanding the nature and quality of our counterparties, as well as their concentrations in terms of industry or country. In this team we analyse and assess the credit risk involved in all our transactions and continue to monitor them to ensure we’re not exposed to any default activity.
Market risk
In market risk, we measure the change in the value of a deal or portfolio, as a result of market factors such as equity, interest rate, currency and commodity risk. In this team we set the boundaries that our trading areas operate under and then report market risk exposures against those boundaries. Join us and you’ll develop your knowledge of the global markets and relevant financial instruments to assess the risks that our business is exposed to in the world’s financial markets.
Country risk
In Country Risk we analyse economic, political and policy trends that could affect transactions in countries and our ability to transfer payments out of the country. It’s a critical role because of our focus on emerging markets. Join us and you’ll build your understanding of how to make sense of global and emerging market trends and how to structure transactions to protect against these specific country risks.
Compliance
Our business has to meet statutory, supervisory and regulatory requirements. As well as managing our relationships with regulators, in Compliance we mitigate risk through a variety of initiatives, including anti-money laundering assessment & monitoring and conflict clearance. In this team you’ll help to ensure that the deals we make and the processes we use comply with local and international regulations.
Operational risk
In Operational Risk we cover the risk of loss as a result of problems with the bank’s internal processes, people and systems, or external events. We manage the operational risk framework, so need a detailed understanding of how the bank operates, from booking transactions to record-keeping.
Legal
We provide legal advisory, transaction and regulatory support to all business areas, including negotiating, preparing and executing trading documents, restructuring advice and managing litigation matters.
